How to Change My Debit Card PIN Number

How to Change My Debit Card PIN Number

The PIN number on your debit card allows you to access funds at ATMs or use the card at merchants where you enter the PIN number in the keypad. Keep your PIN private and use a PIN that is not easily guessed such as your birthday or address. If you need to change your PIN, you can do one of two things: go to the ATM or go into your local bank branch.

Instructions

How to Change Your PIN at an ATM

1 Place the debit card into the ATM.

2.Press your current PIN number to access your account information.

3.Select "more options" from the menu.

4.Select "PIN change" and follow the prompts to enter a new PIN number. Verify the new PIN number to ensure that you entered the number correctly.

5.Select "finish" and retrieve your ATM card with the new PIN number.

How to Change a PIN in the Bank Branch

1.Ask to speak with an account representative at the bank. These are usually the people at desks, not behind the teller line.

2.Explain that you would like to change your PIN number.

3.Swipe the card as prompted by your account representative.

4.Enter the new PIN number when promoted by the account representative, who will ask you to re-enter it to make sure it is correct.

Tips & Warnings

If you do not know your current PIN number, call the customer service number on the back of the card and ask for a new system-generated PIN to be sent to you. This often takes one to two weeks to process and deliver to you.

Never share your PIN number with anyone, including account representatives. They should never ask you for you PIN; you should always be allowed to enter your own number on a key pad.
